A message from our President

Dear Members,

At its core, health insurance is a safety net for worst case scenarios, like the one the world is experiencing as this report is released. In retrospect, 2019 gave us so much for which to be grateful. It was a year that prepared us well to help you weather this current, unprecedented crisis.

I think of this report of as a review of partnerships that make North Dakota stronger and healthier, in every sense of the word.

  • We come alongside members in good times and in the most challenging times. On the following pages, you’ll get a glimpse of two courageous young men who fall into that second category. They’ve overcome tremendous challenges and remind me there are heroes among us.
  • You’ll also see how joint efforts between BCBSND and the state’s health care providers are profoundly affecting members’ health and well-being. One example is Park River’s First Care, a rural health center using our BlueAlliance program to improve care. Their success has earned them the 2019 Innovation Award.
  • Also central to our mission is community partnerships, which manifest themselves through the work of our Caring Foundation and of 1000+ employees who create a culture of giving back to the communities where they live and work.
  • And of course, the report contains important business metrics as well.

I hope you are as encouraged as I am when reflecting on 2019. And let me close by thanking you for another impactful year in 2019. We know you have many choices for health insurance and appreciate the trust you place in us.

In gratitude,

Dan Conrad
