Duplicate Denials on Secondary Claims for Medicaid Expansion Notification

Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) wants to inform providers of an identified issue causing duplicate denial(s) to apply in error on a correctly submitted secondary Medicaid Expansion claim.

This applies only to Medicaid Expansion members who have a BCBSND Commercial plan as primary with the same Unique Member Identification (UMI) number as their Medicaid Expansion plan. Please note, the prefix on the UMI will be different, but the numeric portion will be the same for the Commercial and Medicaid Expansion plan.

This impacts claims with dates of service 01/01/2022-present. BCBSND is actively working to resolve this and will provide additional guidance in an upcoming HCN article.
