No Surprises Act (NSA) Directory Data Maintenance Mandate Update

Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) is amending our previous communication on the No Surprises Act (NSA) mandate and no longer removing providers from the directory who do not validate or update information by the March 31st deadline.

BCBSND has worked with our local providers, vendors and suppliers to make updates to what was previously communicated by enhancing our current semi-annual provider demographic survey. Instead of mailing providers’ directory information twice a year, as done in the past, we ask providers to verify or submit changes in Availity Essentials using the Directory Validation process.

Providers are asked to continue to provide updates as they occur through the Directory Maintenance form. In the future, these updates will be able to be made through Availity Essentials, through the Directory Validation process.

The Directory Validation process remains important to ensure the BCBSND directory reflects accurate information. By ensuring information is accurate and updated, you help patients in their search for healthcare.

What you need to do:
Each provider group or organization should continue updating BCBSND of changes as they occur and respond to our semi-annual survey. To review your provider directory information, confirm its accuracy or request changes, please use our Availity Essentials provider portal.

Where to begin:

What if a provider does not comply with the NSA mandate?
If a provider fails to make an effort to update BCBSND as changes occur, they may be removed from our provider directory.

What comes next?
BCBSND will continue to work with our software vendor and Availity Essentials to enhance the user experience by incorporating edit capabilities to replace the Directory Maintenance form.
