Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) is continuing to see several claims billed inappropriately with the CPT Q3014. Healthcare Common Procedural Coding System (HCPCS) code Q3014; Telehealth originating site facility feeis used to bill for services incurred at the site where the patient is located during the telehealth service. Per the BCBSND Telehealth Services Reimbursement Policy, code Q3014 should be reported with the valid place of service (POS) code reflecting the location of the patient.
If the patient is not located in a healthcare facility or clinic, additional services are not being provided at an originating site, and it would not be appropriate to bill code Q3014. In addition, it is not appropriate for the same performing provider to bill for both the telehealth professional service provided at the distant site along with code Q3014 for the telehealth originating site.
