Question #3: How to find out what has been paid by insurance

December 9, 2013 Ryan Schuster

Our customer service staff answers hundreds of calls each day. We decided we would answer the five most common questions we receive from members. Some of the most common questions involve which medical bills have been paid by insurance and how much of the total members are responsible to pay.

You can sign up to receive electronic Explanation of Benefits (EOB) forms so you can manage your EOBs online instead of through the mail. If you sign up online to manage your insurance coverage and benefits online, you can also access info about insurance coverage details, claims and how to determine if you have met your deductible online.

We send our members EOBs forms in the mail (shown above) or electronically, detailing when and where their Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota insurance was used, how much insurance reimbursed medical facilities for and the remainder that members can expect to receive in a bill from the medical facility. This helps members manage their health care bills and insurance coverage and become informed about how their insurance coverage is working for them.  Here is an explanation of how to read your EOB.
