BCBSND's annual report celebrates 75 years of serving members
Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2015. Since 1940, we have served North Dakotans.
We are proud to celebrate some of our members, employers who offer our coverage, health care facilities and health care providers, and employees in our annual report.
Members like the Strommen family from Fort Rice, N.D., who were helped through BCBSND's Member Advocacy Program when their son was born with a congenital disease.
Employer groups like Midwest Motor Express, which has provided BCBSND health coverage to its employees for the past 75 years. They are one of three employers that we have served since 1940.
Health care providers like Coal Country Community Health Centers, which uses data provided by BCBSND to help identify their patients had a high incidence of diabetes and create an outreach program to address those needs. In addition, Coal Country used BCBSND data to encourage patients to obtain necessary screenings such as mammograms and colonoscopies.
And longtime employees like R.D. Brown and Cheryl Mikkelsen from our Marketing department. They know firsthand the difference having BCBSND coverage makes when facing a serious health issue whether in their own lives or in the lives of the members they serve.
We're proud to be working with and working for North Dakota. The annual report also features a timeline of our history.
BCBSND President and CEO Tim Huckle has worked for BCBSND for nearly 30 of the company's 75 years. During that time, he's witnessed BCBSND adjust to changes and turn challenges into opportunities to better serve its members.
In his president's message in the annual report, Huckle writes that 2013 was a "financially challenging year for the company. However, just one year later, as we closed the books on 2014, we were able to build financial strength to keep our members safe and secure."
During that time period, enrollment increased despite the demands of the Affordable Care Act. "Turning challenges into opportunities. It's been at the core of our character for 75 years," Huckle said.
"We recognize there will be perpetual bumps in the road. It's during those periods we rely on perseverance and creativity to find solutions that benefits those we serve. We have done so for 75 years and will continue to do so for years to come," Huckle said.
We encourage you celebrate the past 75 years with us by reading the annual report. Whether we have served you since 1940, or four years or four months, we consider it a privilege.
