Forget the working lunch. Try a walking lunch.
Join others across the nation for a noontime walk on April 24, National Walk @Lunch Day.
It's a simple commitment for a heap of benefits. Mayo Clinic says regular brisk walking helps:
- Maintain a healthy weight
- Prevent or manage various conditions, including heart disease, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes
- Strengthen your bones and muscles
- Improve your mood
- Improve your balance and coordination
Harvard Medical School adds that walking also reduces the risk of breast cancer and helps tame a sweet tooth, among other things.
If those benefits sound attractive, use this national event to begin a new movement (literally). Grab some co-workers or friends, a comfortable pair of shoes and block off 30 minutes, then head out for a brisk walk. Follow the event hashtag, #NWLD, for a little extra comradery.
Don't stop there.
