Quit smoking for the Great American Smokeout
If you're one of the nearly 43 million Americans who smoke cigarettes, the American Cancer Society would like you to set aside smoking on Thursday, Nov. 21. The Great American Smokeout is held each year on the third Thursday of November. It's a time for smokers to make a plan to quit, or to plan in advance and quit smoking that day.
If you quit smoking even for one day, you are taking an important step to improve your health. Within 20 minutes, your heart rate and blood pressure drop. And after 12 hours, the carbon monoxide level in your blood drops to normal.
