In this employee spotlight, we feature Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) Director of Enterprise Analytics Dawn Brenamen.

Meet Dawn Brenamen
Dawn grew up in Larimore, North Dakota and is married to her high school sweetheart and husband of 30 years, Jeff. Together they have two kids and two grandchildren.

After graduating from North Dakota State University (NDSU), Dawn used her bachelor's degree in nursing and master's degree in business administration to build a purposeful career in health care. She held many different roles on the provider side until she joined Blue in 2015.

The power of data
As director of enterprise analytics, Dawn oversees our data and analytics work. By analyzing data, we can better understand health care delivery in North Dakota and help providers bring a higher quality of care to members.

“Data is very powerful,” said Dawn. “We’re able to look at data and see, not only how a member is doing, but also potentially predict disease or other issues. By providing this data to providers, we can give them a clearer picture of their patients’ stories.”

Helping providers to help our members
As technology evolves, it gives us more opportunities to learn and connect with one another. As health care providers share patient data with each other, we can also fill in the gaps for them by sharing pharmacy information and more. This helps providers know if prescriptions are filled and picked up or not. From there, providers can have meaningful conversations with their patients – our members.

“I have a lot of passion for helping our providers,” Dawn shared. “We help members where we can with wellness programs and other tools, but the more personal relationship exists between the individual and their health care provider. However, we can support providers as they help our members is one of my biggest areas of interest.”

Finding support from her team and leadership
As Dawn and her teams support providers, she’s found Blue to be a caring place, even amidst the ever changing industry of health care.

“There’s a lot going on in the organization, more than one would think goes on in a health plan. But even though we’re not always together due to our hybrid workforce, we still care about and support each other. That comes all the way from the top – from our CEO and our senior leadership team. They really try to give everybody an opportunity to be involved and included,” said Dawn.

The future of data
While our data teams work hard to provide meaningful and timely reporting to providers and internal stakeholders, Dawn and her teams look forward to making the reports more accessible in the future. As many areas and functions begin automating applications and tools, they also look forward to providing more self-service capabilities, removing delays and barriers for providers who may want or need more timely data.

We thank Dawn and her teams for the work they do to help providers and internal stakeholders better serve our members’ health and well-being.
