BCBSND Caring Foundation partners with North Dakota Department of Public Instruction for school grant program

Funds used to encourage healthy lifestyles at an early age

FARGO –The Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) Caring Foundation is proud to partner with the North Dakota Department of Instruction (NDDPI) to provide access to BCBSND Caring Foundation grant funding. BCBSND Caring Foundation is offering a CaringforKids grant program to qualified organizations that help support the health care needs of North Dakotans. CaringForKids grants support initiatives aimed at preventing childhood obesity and encouraging healthy lifestyles at an early age.

BCBSND Caring Foundation believes health and well-being are essential building blocks to personal fulfillment, thriving communities and a strong state. The BCBSND Caring Foundation is interested in partnering with schools that wish to offer programming which teaches students about eating healthy, keeping fit and forming positive relationships, which add up to a healthy lifestyle.

Kirsten Baesler, the North Dakota Superintendent of Public Instruction said, "These grant programs are a great way to promote healthy living habits and the benefits of exercise among our young North Dakotans and the communities in which they live. The Blue Cross Blue Shield Caring Foundation is to be commended for offering these grant opportunities."

Tim Huckle, President and CEO of BCBSND and chairman of the BCBSND Caring Foundation shared, "The Caring Foundation is pleased to be partnering with North Dakota schools to help improve the health and fitness of our kids. Our kids spend so much of their time in schools, making it a perfect place to help shape healthy habits through fun and engaging activities."

The funding for grants is limited. As such, priority will be given to K-6 grade and to grants that incorporate proven, evidenced-based programming that demonstrates how funding will positively impact kids where they live, learn and play.

The grant application can be found on the BCBSND Caring Foundation website at: www.BCBSND.com/CaringforKids.
