BCBSND Caring Foundation Partners With NDSU School Of Pharmacy To Continue The Fight Against Opioid Misuse

The Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) Caring Foundation recently partnered with NDSU School of Pharmacy to provide funding for a new project, ONE Rx (Opioid and Naloxone Education). Funding from Caring Foundation's "CaringforCommunities" initiative will be used to develop Opioid Misuse Risk Prevention Toolkits to be utilized by community pharmacists to ensure the safe use of opioids among their community members.

The goal of this partnership is to develop opioid misuse preventative education toolkits and to assist our community pharmacists with resources to expand awareness and prevention of opioid misuse.

This project will educate and provide tools to pharmacists to ensure the safe use of opioids. Opioid misuse disorder affects almost a quarter of individuals filling an opioid prescription for pain. ONE Rx aims to lower this number by bringing screening options to community pharmacists to give another opportunity to screen for opioid misuse risk.

This partnership is an extension of the work that the Caring Foundation has been engaged in at both the state and community level to prevent opioid misuse. In 2017, the Caring Foundation partnered with Prairie Public Broadcast, Bell Bank and Dakota Medical Foundation to produce a 30-minute documentary addressing the opioid epidemic that was aired statewide.
