Mid Dakota Clinic to participate in BCBSND's MediQHome program

Addition completes participation for all of North Dakota's largest medical providers, improving care for patients across the state

Bismarck, N.D. (May 29, 2013) – Mid Dakota Clinic of Bismarck has signed an agreement with Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) to participate in BCBSND's MediQHome patient-centered medical home program that helps doctors and clinics efficiently coordinate patient care.

"We are pleased to welcome Mid Dakota Clinic to MediQHome," said Paul von Ebers, president and CEO of BCBSND. "The concept of a patient-centered medical home has taken root in North Dakota and is transforming how health care professionals deliver care. In its short implementation, we've seen reduced ER visits and hospital admissions in patients with chronic conditions. We are happy with the results thus far and can't wait to see continued improvements."

MediQHome is a collaborative effort between patients, the state's medical providers and BCBSND to improve quality outcomes for patients and rein in rising health care costs. MediQHome is a flexible patient-centered program that focuses on improving care for common chronic conditions, such as diabetes, which are costly to treat. The program also facilitates long-term relationships between individual patients and their personal providers.

"After a thorough review of the MediQHome program, Mid Dakota Clinic is confident that the program is a valuable tool for coordinating patient care, and at the same time, gathering appropriate patient data," says Craig Schaaf, CFO. "In addition, the recent implementation of our new Electronic Health Record (EHR) will be instrumental in allowing us to more efficiently manage our patients under MediQHome while ensuring the maximum security of our patient's information."

BCBSND launched MediQHome in 2009. Currently, 73 percent of the state's medical providers participate in the program. The addition of Mid Dakota Clinic, the last of the state's largest health providers to join MediQHome, will increase the percentage of medical providers participating in the program to between 75 percent and 80 percent.

MediQHome is instrumental in BCBSND's efforts to create a more affordable health system in North Dakota and is helping BCBSND move to reimbursing doctors and hospitals more based on quality of care delivered and less on quantity of services provided.
