Raan promoted to Internal Audit manager at BCBSND

Jennifer Raan has been promoted to manager of Internal Audit at Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota, Fargo. She had been a team leader in that department. As manager she will oversee the performance of audits and supervise staff, in addition to managerial responsibilities such as strategic planning and budgeting.

In April, the state of North Dakota adopted new requirements that insurers formalize internal controls regarding reliability of financial statements. Raan will be involved with the internal control framework required for the company to comply with the Model Audit Rule (MAR) and other regulatory requirements, such as Statement of Auditing Standards 70 (SAS 70) and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) risk-focused exam.

She will also work with risk assessment in the company's enterprise risk management (ERM) program. ERM assesses and manages entity-wide risk and aligns risk strategies to company goals and objectives.

Raan attended North Dakota State University, where she earned a bachelor of science degree in family economics with minors in business administration and child development and family sciences. She later earned a master's degree in business administration from NDSU.

She first worked for BCBSND from 1991-1994 in the Claims Department. She rejoined the company in 2001 as an internal auditor and later became a compliance specialist in Compliance, then a Compliance team leader and an Internal Audit team leader.
