BCBSND Caring Foundation grant helps community improve their wellness

TURTLE LAKE, N.D. – Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) Caring Foundation provided funds to Northland Health Centers to host a wellness challenge for employees and local community members. Twenty-four individuals participated in the eight-week challenge that focused on healthy eating choices, increased water consumption, exercise and mental health. They also hosted a community 5K event.

“All of the participants loved being a part of these events and worked hard to win the prizes awarded at the end,” shares Melissa Thury, special projects coordinator for Northland Health Centers. “The staff and community were so excited, and this spring’s event was so well received that they are gearing up to do a fall wellness challenge, which will be another eight-week initiative incorporating a preventative health component as well.”

BCBSND Caring Foundation Manager Amber Blomberg says, “We were pleased to be able to support the community’s wellness events that encouraged many different wellbeing aspects, not just solely focusing on weight loss.” About the Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) Caring Foundation
