CHI St. Alexius Health in Carrington was a 2019 recipient of a Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) Caring Foundation Rural Health Grant. The grant helped fund an additional treadmill for their staff fitness center and helped to offer staff health promotion workshops focusing on meal prep and physical activity.
Nicole Threadgold, Foundation Director stated, "The funds helped to purchase an additional industrial-grade treadmill for the employee fitness center to provide an increased opportunity for physical activity as the treadmill is our most popular piece of equipment. These funds also helped provide stress relieving activities for our annual Service Excellence staff workshop which was recently held at the end of October. The workshops went extremely well and our staff really enjoyed the activities."
The activities included a meal prep class which was led by a licensed dietician. Participating staff could sample meal plans and went home with one completed freezer meal. The second activity offered was an exercise program utilizing an exercise ball. Everyone participating got to keep a ball to take home for continued use towards improving their health.
