Dr. Gregory Glasner

Chief Medical Officer

A true veteran of the North Dakota health care system, Dr. Gregory Glasner has over 37 years of health care experience as a physician, leader, health care executive and board member. His pursuit of leadership roles came from his natural problem-solving attitude and desire to make a better impact on his patients’ health care experience. Even now, he still sees patients as a practicing Obstetrician and Gynecologist (OB-GYN) in Fargo, N.D. at Essentia Health.

In his role as the chief medical officer at BCBSND, Dr. Glasner leads the strategic direction of clinical integration, medical policy and health care cost management, and previously served as a board member at BCBSND for nine years. He also served as president and chief administrative officer for Essentia Health’s western five hospital market. Moving to the insurance side of the health care landscape has been a motivating experience as he listens to members’ concerns and works closely with providers and other BCBSND partners to help improve the health care experience.

From tackling the high cost of pharmaceuticals to making significant technology improvements in both health care coordination and evaluation, he and his teams are working on multiple cost-effective solutions to directly improve the health and well-being of our members.

He earned his medical degree from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks and became a physician due to his desire to work with people. He chose the OB-GYN field because of the variety of interactions, from acute delivery and surgical care to long-term health maintenance. Overall, the most rewarding part of his work as a physician is the lifelong health care he gets to provide to his patients.

Dr. Glasner completed his residencies at St. Paul Ramsey Medical Center and Michigan State University/Sparrow Hospital and is also Board Certified by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. In addition, he’s earned a certification from the Physician Leadership College at the University of St. Thomas and holds an Executive Master of Business Administration degree from Auburn University.

In his spare time, he and his family like to go to the lake and spend time outdoors. They enjoy boating, skiing and other activities. When Dr. Glasner has a few moments for himself, he also likes to go hunting.
