Building Healthier Rural Community (BUILD) Grants

With these grants, rural health care providers and their communities collaborate to address their unique health and wellness challenges. The grants are offered jointly by the BCBSND Caring Foundation and the Center for Rural Health at the University of North Dakota, School of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Congratulations to our 2022 awardees:

Foster County Public Health – Carrington will not only upgrade 40+ year old equipment, but it will also serve as a space to increase physical activity for the low-income area of town and will be ADA compliant, as well as handicapped accessible.

Beyond Boundaries Occupational Therapy, Inc. – Fargo will be able to continue to provide therapy services to families in rural communities for children in need and help alleviate the barriers families are facing to get their child to therapy.

Steele County Public Health Department – Finley will provide work out sessions to the aging population to work on strengthening and balance.

Christian Unity Hospital dba Unity Medical Center – Grafton will enhance space for a pediatric gym, which will augment therapy services available locally for children who need occupational, physical and/or speech therapy on a regular basis.

SMP Health - St. Aloisius– Harvey will build an outdoor patio that will enable residents to get outside more conveniently during nicer days to enjoy fresh air and sunshine helping to improve their mental well-being, mood, reduce wandering and agitated behaviors and allow for more outside visitation with the ongoing pandemic.

West River Health Services – Hettinger will create a recreational library to allow area community members to check out recreational equipment, which will encourage the usage of many recreational sites and opportunities that Adams County offers.

Nelson County Health System – McVille will create a compliant playground for the children of McVille, Nelson County, and surrounding communities.

Mountrail County Health Foundation – Stanley will host a leadership program designed to build character, confidence, and courage for their healthcare leadership and staff and promote mental wellness.
