Each year, health insurance issuers and employers with self-funded plans are required to fund the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute’s (PCORI) research efforts to help patients and their health care providers make informed care decisions.

As outlined in the ACA, BCBSND pays the PCORI fee on behalf of fully insured plans. Self-funded plans are responsible for their own payments. We’ve mailed information to affected plans to help you calculate your fee. The current year calculation is based on the average number of members covered and is $2.45 per member.

Reporting your fee
The fee is reported and paid using IRS Form 720 Quarterly Federal Excise Tax Return and is due on July 31 of the year following the last day of the plan year. Please consult your tax advisor if you need assistance.
