Additional Updates Regarding North Dakota Medicaid and Medicaid Expansion Health Coverage

As mentioned in the prior HealthCare News (HCN) article Important Updates Regarding North Dakota Medicaid and Medicaid Expansion Health Coverage, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a Public Health Emergency (PHE) was put into place in 2020 that required the North Dakota’s Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to not process any redetermination status of Medicaid members.

Now that the PHE has ended, DHHS has started the redetermination process for Medicaid and Medicaid Expansion (ME) members in April 2023. Some members have already lost coverage effective June 1, 2023. The redetermination process will continue throughout the year and is based on renewal date for the member.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) currently serves about 34,000 ME members. It is estimated that 8,000 to 10,000 ME members will lose their coverage after the redetermination review is completed by DHHS.
