BCBSND Caring Foundation News: Improving Maternal Health Outcomes

Recently, the Caring Foundation gave out three grants to organizations that are actively reducing maternal health disparities and improving maternal health outcomes in North Dakota.

Catholic Charities North Dakota – Bismarck, Fargo, Grand Forks, Minot locations

  • Provide support services to families of two generations at a time through the necessary transportation to appointments, parent education and much more: meeting parents where they’re at during their pregnancy journey.

Indigenous Association – Fargo based, statewide reach

  • Have established exceptional maternal health initiatives through cohesive, culturally grounded programs including lactation support circles, nutrition workshops, community health education, and weekly Akisni Warrior Talking Circles for recovery support.

Richland County Health Department – Wahpeton area

  • Work with vulnerable groups, including incarcerated mothers, promoting breastfeeding and maternal health during and after incarceration, ensuring continuity of care and providing culturally sensitive education.
