Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND), in response to the recent measles cases in North Dakota, has reviewed the coverage criteria and benefits for the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine.
Measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) and measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (MMRV) vaccine(s) will be covered as a preventive service, subject to the member's preventive benefits as outlined in their benefit plan, even if administered outside the standard age range identified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Please note, if the claim for MMR immunization has finalized and a provider does not feel it processed toward the members preventive benefit appropriately, contact the appropriate Provider Service Center to have the claim reviewed.
Providers should still follow standard processes of checking eligibility to ensure the member has active coverage prior to rendering the service. Preventive benefits may vary by plan, while most cover routine immunizations at 100%, some plans may not. For further questions on specific plan benefits, please contact us.
