Partnering to Improve Cervical Cancer Screening and Patient Outcomes

January marks Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, a timely reminder of the critical role routine screenings plays in preventing advanced disease and supporting women’s long-term health. To help close care gaps, Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) recently mailed more than 5,000 plus postcards to eligible subscribers and spouses who have not completed a recommended cervical cancer screening within the past three years.

As a refresher, the HEDIS Cervical Cancer Screening (CCS) measure evaluates whether women ages 21–64 receive appropriate screening at evidence-based intervals. This includes:

  • Cervical cytology (Pap test) every three years for women ages 21–64
  • High risk Human Papillomavirus (HPV) testing every five years for women ages 30–64
  • Co‑testing (Pap + HPV) every five years for women ages 30–64

In addition, BCBSND developed a Cervical Screening Resource Kit for employers, which includes:

  • A flyer
  • An educational article
  • Digital assets for intranets and lobby displays

Thank you for your continued partnership in improving preventive care and supporting the health of North Dakotans.
