The excision repair cross-complementing factor 1 (ERCC1) gene is an important and critical gene in the cell’s ability to repair damage to DNA. ERCC1 plays a key role in the nucleotide excision repair of the DNA and has been shown to possibly play a role in the repair of the damage produced by the use of cisplatin and other platinum based chemotherapy drugs.
ERCC1 analysis for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is considered experimental/investigational and therefore, non-covered because the safety and/or effectiveness of this service cannot be established by the available published peer-reviewed literature.
