October marks National Breast Cancer Screening Awareness Month—a time to highlight the importance of early detection and regular screenings. According to the American Cancer Society, one in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer during their lifetime, making it the second most common cancer among women. Early detection is crucial for better outcomes, and as a healthcare provider, you play a vital role by recommending regular screenings to your patients.
The Breast Cancer Screening (BCS) measure from the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set® (HEDIS) evaluates whether female patients ages 40 to 74 have received a mammogram to screen for breast cancer within the past two years.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) is committed to supporting preventive care and encourages members—and your patients—to prioritize screenings throughout the year, not just in October.
To help increase screening rates, BCBSND is mailing reminder postcards this week to select subscribers and covered spouses who are due for their recommended screening.
Postcards have been sent to:
- 1,805 large employer group members
- 720 Medicaid Expansion members
- 583 individual metallic on-exchange members
Together, we can make a difference through early detection.
