Supporting screening recommendations with our members.
March marks Colorectal (Colon) Cancer Awareness Month, a time to highlight the importance of early detection and routine screening. As a healthcare provider, you play a vital role by discussing risk factors and recommending age- and risk-appropriate screening options for your patients.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) sent more than 10,000 postcards on Friday, March 13, 2026, to selected group subscribers and spouses that have not had the recommended colorectal cancer screenings in the advised timeframe.
As you are aware, the colon plays a big role in patients’ overall wellness. BCBSND shared the following information on the mailed postcards.
- Most health plans cover colon screenings. Check your benefits to be sure.
- Experts recommend colon screenings for adults ages 45 to 75. If you are between 76 and 85, talk with your care team to decide what is right for you.
- You may also have an at-home option, such as a Cologuard test.
In addition, we created and shared these preventive care toolkits with employers. The kits include resources like flyers, email templates and intranet articles.
Together, we can make a difference through early detection.
