Important Information Regarding Faxed Precertification Requests

Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) wants to inform providers of an upcoming change to faxed precertification requests.

Since the go-live of the Predictal precertification process within Availity Essentials, we have gained efficiencies and quicker turnaround times with services requested through the Availity portal. This has prompted the decision to no longer accept faxed requests for precertification effective Sept. 1, 2024. Faxes received will be cancelled unless the situation below applies.

  • Provider received an error in Availity and Availity ticket number is referenced on the fax cover sheet.
  • When Availity Essentials or Predictal has downtime.
    • BCBSND will notify providers if this occurs and to utilize a fax option if necessary.


This guide can be used for providers needing to review or refresh on the Predictal Precertification tool.

You can verify your Availity Essentials access with your administrator if you will be submitting precertification requests for your office. If you have access to the Patient Registration, Authorization & Referrals tab within Availity Essentials today, you should not need to do anything further.
