Out-of-State BlueCard Plan Coordination of Benefits Process Improvement

Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) is informing our provider community that, effective Oct. 17, 2025, there will be a system update. This update will allow claims from out-of-state plans that are coordinating as secondary to be processed in the same manner as our local BCBSND secondary claims.

This update aims to prevent providers from receiving higher-than-expected payments from out-of-state plans that are paying secondary to a commercial payer.

We will be updating our provider manual to reflect on this new process within the next 90 days.
