Chlamydia Screening in Women (CHL)

Measure Description

Members 16-24 who were identified as sexually active and had at least one test for chlamydia during the measurement year.

Notes

  • This measure applies to members ages 16-24 years as of December 31st of the measurement year.
  • Sexually active members are identified using two methods pharmacy claims and claim encounters.

Measure Compliance (numerator):

  • Members who had at least one chlamydia test during the measurement year.

Best Practices

  • Encourage parents to establish care with a PCP and educate parents on the importance of preventive care visits.
  • Educate patients and their families or caregivers about the importance of routine screenings and medication compliance.
  • Utilize reminders in the patient’s EMR to alert staff of when patients’ screenings are due.
  • Promote signing up for patient portal if your facility provides it (i.e., MyChart).
  • Remind patients of upcoming appointments by making phone calls, sending text messages or utilizing patient portal messaging.
  • Perform chlamydia screening every year on every 16–24-year-old female identified as sexually active.
  • Add chlamydia screening as a standard lab for women 16-24 years old.
  • Utilize urine test for screening as an option for patients.

Exclusions

  • Members in hospice during the measurement year.
  • Members who die during the measurement year.
  • Sex assigned male at birth.
  • Members who had a pregnancy test during the measurement year and a prescription for isotretinoin OR an x-ray on the date of the pregnancy test through six days after the pregnancy test.
