Building Healthier Rural Community (BUILD) Grants

Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) Caring Foundation and the Center for Rural Health at the University of North Dakota, School of Medicine and Health Sciences is excited to announce a grant opportunity opening Nov. 1, 2024, through Nov. 15, 2024. This grant is specific to rural health care providers who partner with nonprofit organizations or others in their community to fund projects that will help build a healthier rural community in 2025.

With these grants, rural health care providers and their communities collaborate to address their unique health and wellness challenges. The grants are offered jointly by the BCBSND Caring Foundation and the Center for Rural Health at the University of North Dakota, School of Medicine and Health Sciences. The funding period is Jan.1, 2025 through Dec. 31, 2025.

Most years, the grantors award six to eight grants of $5,000 to $7,500. Strongest consideration will be given to applicants who demonstrate strong and diverse community collaborations and sustainability.

This grant program targets the following primary focus areas:

  • Economic stability
  • Education access and quality
  • Health care access and quality
  • Neighborhood and built environment
  • Social and community context
