Notification for Licensed Associate Professional Counselor’s (LAPC) Credentialing Updates

*Impacts Medicaid Expansion and Commercial

Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) wants to inform providers of a change that will be effective on Jan. 1, 2025, for Licensed Associate Professional Counselor’s (LAPC).

Currently, LAPC’s bill services under a supervising physician. However, effective Jan. 1, 2025, LAPC’s are expected to be credentialed and bill under their own National Provider Identifier (NPI).

We encourage providers to fill out and complete the Practitioner Credentialing Application as soon as possible to be prepared for this change. Applications can take up to 90 - days to finalize and complete. Once the application is fully processed and loaded into our system(s), providers will receive notice from BCBSND that they can begin filing claims under their own LAPC NPI.

Providers can refer to their fee schedules for reimbursement information.
