What to do if a local disaster is impacting your healthcare.

If your county, state or federal government declares a disaster, Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota may be able to help with your care and medicine.

When you call Customer Service, we can help you:

-       Refill your prescriptions

-       Replace medical equipment that was lost or damaged

-       Get care in person or through a virtual visit

We want to make things easier during a hard time, so you have one less thing to worry about.

Here are steps you can take now to get ready for an emergency or disaster.

Get emergency medication refilled

During an emergency, most members can fill prescriptions at any pharmacy, even if the pharmacy is not in their network. You may also be able to get a refill early or replace medicine that was lost or damaged.

We’ll work with you to help make sure you have the medicine you need. If your medicine needs approval, our Customer Service team can contact your doctor or provider for you. If your provider cannot be reached because of the emergency, you may be able to get a three-day supply of your medicine.

Some medicines follow different rules. This includes controlled substances and opioid pain medicines.

Pharmacy Customer Service is available any time, day or night. Call the number on the back of your member ID card for help.

Find care

Try to use doctors, hospitals and clinics in your plan’s network. This can help you avoid surprise bills or extra costs. During an emergency, you may be able to get care from a doctor, hospital or clinic that is not in your network and still pay your normal in-network cost. Call us to check your options. This may not apply to older health plans.

For care that is not an emergency, you may be able to use virtual care. Sign in to see what your plan includes.

If you need help finding care, replacing lost or broken medical equipment, or updating your contact information, call the number on the back of your member ID card.

Care Management

Are you in a care or disease management program? If you need to leave your home because of an emergency, contact your case manager. You can also call the number on your BCBSND member ID card. We can help you keep getting the care you need.
