Find a North Dakota or Out of State Doctor

After selecting your network, you can search for a doctor or hospital in your area by name, specialty, or a specific medical symptom or procedure.

When searching for doctors outside North Dakota, you will not have the option to select your network after you enter a doctor's name, geographic area or specialty. The results you receive will be BCBSND participating providers, but not specific to your network.

BlueCard Program
If you're planning a trip, you don't need to worry about health coverage in case you become sick or injured while you're away. The BlueCard program allows you the freedom to choose a Blue Cross Blue Shield provider anywhere in the United States. The program is also handy for members who live outside of their Blue Cross Blue Shield service area. Members receive the same provider discounts as in-state residents.

How does it work?
When you're out of the BCBSND service area and need health care services, simply show your BCBSND identification card to any Blue Cross and Blue Shield doctor or hospital. More than 85 percent of all hospitals and health care providers nationwide are participating with a Blue Cross Blue Shield Plan, and all Blue Cross Blue Shield Plans across the country participate in the program.

Clinical Labs, Home Medical Equipment and Specialty Pharmacy

Please call the toll free Member Services phone number listed on the back of your ID card for independent (non-hospital based) clinical laboratory services, Durable Medical Equipment and supplies, or specialty pharmacy services. These services must be filed in specific states based on Blue Cross Blue Shield Association guidelines, which vary depending upon where a member receives services, where the member lives, where the laboratory or other facility is located, and other criteria. Members who do not contact BCBSND before seeking these services may incur significantly higher costs. BCBSND may provide minimal reimbursement for some covered services, depending upon the situation.

Air Ambulance Services

Air ambulance services are typically used when ground ambulance transport is not appropriate or available. BCBSND members who receive services from an air ambulance provider who does not have a participation agreement with a Blue Cross Blue Shield plan, may be responsible for significantly higher costs. These air ambulance providers have participation agreements with Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota. For more information, please call 1-877-528-5140.
