COVID-19 At-Home Testing

Beginning January 15, 2022 and continuing through the end of the COVID-19 federal public health emergency, Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) will cover up to 8 emergency use authorized (EUA) FDA-approved at-home COVID-19 tests per individual every 30 days. This coverage applies to at-home COVID-19 tests for personal use only. It does not apply to testing for employment purposes or for resale purposes.

How to get an at-home test kit

First, check your BCBSND Member ID card for an RxBIN number:

Two ways to purchase at-home test kits:

No cost Tests:

  • Find an in-network pharmacy at myprime.com/pharmacies.
  • Bring the test kit to the pharmacy counter. At the pharmacy counter, show your Member ID card to obtain your test(s).

Note: You must obtain the test at the pharmacy counter for an electronic claim submission, not at the front registers or check-out lane. If the pharmacy does not submit an electronic claim and you have paid up-front for at-home test kits, please see steps below for paper claim submission.

Reimbursed Tests:

  • You can obtain tests from retailers that don’t submit electronic claims.
  • If claims are not submitted electronically or you purchased at-home rapid tests on your own, you must submit a claim along with your receipt and the Universal Product Code (UPC) found on the test kit’s barcode:

Note: As of January 15, 2022, you will be reimbursed for up to $12 per test (or $24 for a pack of 2 tests) for EUA FDA-approved at-home COVID-19 tests purchased.
