Yes. Virtual care visits not only minimize virus exposure, but they are an efficient, effective care delivery system for many health services.

You have two options for virtual care. If your regular health care provider offers virtual care, visit that organization’s website for instructions to begin care.

Your other option is our national virtual care provider, Amwell.

In addition, providers may expand the mode of communication to ensure demand is met. That includes expanding beyond video calls to conduct visits through phone calls, email or online chat, including FaceTime or Skype calls. These expanded types of virtual care visits are covered for BCBSND members.

During your visit, the provider will counsel you about your condition and next steps, which may include an in-person visit to a local provider.

Yes. Prescriptions are sent electronically to the pharmacy of your choice.

At minimum, most patients will need a computer or mobile device with an integrated camera and microphone. If your device doesn't have a built-in microphone or webcam, you'll need to get those. You also need a decent internet connection that allows you to stream video.

A virtual care visit will vary depending on the service.

The doctors on Amwell are part of the Amwell Medical Group, which is a primary care practice with a national network of board-certified doctors who, on average, have 15 years of experience. Doctors are both single- and multi-state licensed and credentialed to work in your state of residence—24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Each of our doctors goes through a rigorous selection process to become a part of the network.
